Grindplate: Speedster

The Scorchers are probably the lightest most "rail friendly" shoes that Soap has released. It was meant to be fast and light, and thats just what it is. The Scorcher's uppers are designed with extra mesh and the shoe has an ultra light sole. Scorchers feature the non-replacable Speedster grind plate, which grinds fast and smooth. The plate also features a built in brake bar, for when you need to control your speed.

Colors:
-Red (red / white / grey)
-Blue (blue / black / white)
-Yellow/Black (yellow / black / grey / white)

Sizes: 3-13 (Blue came in 14)

These are deffinatly my favourite shoes. Very good lock on, good tweaking ability, the plates are just the right speed, the brakes actually work if you can tweak your ankles far enough, theyre super light (in comparison to my Cleans), very breathable material, very comfortable (almost like normal trainers), they look decent and pass as a normal pair of shoes.

I bought my first pair of cleans in about 1998 or 99 or something, when every size existed, so there is a very high chance they were a uk 7....., i also have another pair which are a uk 10....not that it matters cos i aint parting with them, even if they dont fit me they are a relic of my youth that i shall pass on to my grand children

Sorry guys,
The last pair of Scorchers I had available for purchase was in like 2004. Its a shame HSL didn't repeat on the style: its light-weight, durable, and stealth (looks like a regular athletic shoe to the un-initiated). I love the pair of size nines I have worn for about five years. Last year the adhesive cement finally gave out and I dropped a plate in the middle of Boston's Logan Airport. Thank god for Shoe Goo in a tube! It works well on the Flow's Impact Plate, too.

Well since our currencies are so different of course £130 is going to seem like alot for skates. Over here it's nothing, really; the latest skates would set you back £200-£250 easily. However, also consider that a pair of skate shoes over here costs around £50-£80 max, so $200 is alot for a pair of shoes by anyone's standards

Hmm... I saw a pair of these at K-mart a couple yers back for $40, but I had no idea what Soap was. The only thing I'm speculative about with this design (and any other with non-replaceable plates) is, what do you do when the plates are worn to the point that you can't use them any more?

YEa...But to make sure that that doesnt happen to quickly, try not to use ur Scorchers for Ledges too much....or ROUGH ledges for that matter, itt'll kill ur plates faster than on a rail

Trust me I know how much a brake bar is essential for vert rails. It's just with new or rare shoes like the Scorcher you just dont wana ruin the grindplate to get that option of slowing down

tbh I would never try that, brakeing a different way than you usually do would be soo risky on dangerous rails. And doing UFOs/Royales without touching the brake pad will make you go faster

Renny, check both plates for measurement (width and length) simularity. Your photo looks like a factory defect where they glued the next size larger plate on one half of the pair. Is overlap on the other side of that half-pair excessive also? If so, that's most likely the error. --Steve

Hey Renny,
If they just glued it to far to one side, that's actually a better deal for you. Screwdriver or pry bar it loose and then reattach with:
1) Neoprene cement (if you can find it)
2) Shoe Goo, or
3) Contact cement as a last choice!
Don't forget to clamp the plate in place until the glue cures for a good adhesive bond. --- Steve

As a 'newb', I can honestly say I didn't shoot for these shoes off the bat. Or the Broadsides, for that matter.

There is explanation to this though; Realistically, I could never find these in my size.

My Expresses are currently on my shelf. They were my favorite shoes. They've been to hell and back and are happy to be in retirement. yeah, I be wanting them Scorchers. I just sent Steve an idea for a brand new model. Imma wait and see if he thinks its worth showing HSL.

The materials it uses aren't "cost sensitive" (what HSL is afraid of) because it'll be using the same material from the express. -NOT THE SAME LOOK, SAME MATERIALS- But before i go any deeper than that, i'll wait for a response from Steve.

Well, most soaps have suede and mesh...thats what i meant.

And i dunno why ur downing the express plate spider. I love the express plate, it slides really well. Although i have to say, you need to wear in a groove like mine does for you to REALLY start enjoying the express. Because even i can admit that express plates are a little iffy when new. But snag up a groove like mine, and you'll be really happy

i like them on rails, but not concrete, when i tried the UHF branded plates, they were superior to express, i have a groove on mine, i still dont like em much

I'm afraid to get a groove in my express....I've almost killed myself many times on handrails with them.

It's not a matter of grooves, it's a matter of lock-in. The express has too strict of a lockin. Sure grooves help, but that lockin just doesn't work good.

I'd only use express on rails, but nor do I trust them on high rails.

And if you do get a groove in the plate, that makes your contact with the rubber soap O in the grind plate closer and closer to what you are grinding on. Before you know it, you're hitting the soap O and going nowhere.

At least on the scorcher model, you don't have that annoying O in the grind plate that will cause you to never be able to use your shoes again. The speedster plate can take up to a lot more than express could, because once you are hitting that soap O in the shoe, you're done grinding.

the "O" issue has yet to happen to me... but if it ever did, i'd either use it for speed control on vert rails, or just flatten it...i dunt see the big deal

these soes are a must. first soaps i ever used. i busted my ass right away lol. then he took the shoes back. what an ass.. he left NY, 4 years ago. i found an old picture of us, and im like hell y dont i try soaping agn. god he started when he was 10, imagine how good danny must be now.
