Grindplate: Slipknot

The Soap Broadsides was Soap's first model to feature a sole plate along with a lateral (aka 50/50) plate. The name of this brand new hybrid grindplate was the slipknot. Slipknot grindplates grind slower than standard Soap grind plates, which can be a good thing. The only drawbacks to the slipknot grind plates is that they are non-replacable, and don't lock-on to objects well when new (once you wear them for a while grooves will form in the plates for lock-on.) An advantage to the slipknots, other than the sole plate, is the shape on the sides of the lateral (50/50) plate, which are shaped perfectly for doing tricks where you have to tweak your feet, such as royales, UFOs, backslides etc. The Broadsides themselves are extremely light weight shoes, perfect for getting some height on your jumps. Broadsides are also very comfortable. Due to the lack of popularity of the Broadsides (caused by their high original cost) they are now discontinued. A limited amount of these shoes were released.

Broadsides are the soaps with the sole grind plate. They allow you to do a wider variety of tricks. the normal grind plates work wery well, i found the normal plates to work well, very slidey (if that is a word), and very nice on granite and ledges. The sole plate is nice, just a little wobbly. The shoes are not very comfortable. As far as comfort and skating go, i would pick my globes any day. But overall this seems to be a very good shoe, even though it is nowhere to be found on the internet. Oh yeah, it comes in green or blue, I have green.

Apr 26, 2006 Surfaced

i wouldn't even attempt to ride a skateboard with these.

And I loved how the mesh connected the tongue to the rest of the shoe. So comfy... unless your ankle is rubbing on the plastic, which I have no Idea why they had there. For the standard rail, the 50/50 plate is a little big, so it may wobble a bit. The Arch plate is HUGE. Grooves may get in there over time, as stated above. The shoe is consructed of a lovely leathery material, and plastic for the final lace holes (this plastic goes around the back and the logo goes over it, along with a couple decorational lines). Some of the leathery material is embossed in lines for looks. There is a very rugged toegaurd, and metal lace rings. Below the grind plate, the text "Soap" is visible. What else... o yeah, if you are using a practice rail, you are gonna want wax, or else you are going to be putting a lot of energy into getting speed.
I forgot to mention, these have by far the largest slope for doing tweaked grinds, such as royales. Its so easy.

Jun 12, 2006 AnthoFlex

It looks as though Cess SLides would be a lot easier with these....the plate sticks out a lot form the sides.....a lot of people thin kthat Cess slides are gay, but i dunt.....not really SOaping, but something fun to do on a very smooth floor

Jun 12, 2006 Mart

More plastic out at the sides means that you have less shoe in contact with the surface you're cess sliding, which means you have less control. I find royales hard in these because I can't brake on the side of the shoe, which is crucial when grinding handrails

Jun 12, 2006 Mart

Also, I find these shoes so uncomfortable, although that is to be expected when most of the sole is made of plastic

Aug 7, 2006 AnthoFlex

YEa, my friend lent me his broadsides yesterday and the fucking plate is soooo wobly! Holy shit...and its uncomfortable, most of the sole is made outta plastic so i guess thats why.....Not recommended

Aug 7, 2006 AnthoFlex

also, Mart, the whole cess slideing thing....no control...sux

Aug 7, 2006 AnthoFlex

*you were right

Aug 12, 2006 Mart

I wouldn't go so far to say that these aren't recommended, the fact that they're the only pair of Soap Shoes to be made commercially available with a grind plate is more than enough reason to get a pair. It's just that these aren't everyday shoes, which says alot coming from me since I do wear my Soaps every day

Aug 13, 2006 XSIVE7

wow EVERY day my broadsides r in the mail STILL thanks 2 UPS!
anway when i soap i like the feeeling of not having control yes it does have painfull counter actions but just the feeling of letting go is what keeps me come'n back .

Aug 13, 2006 SapAuthor

I'm so envious, i didn't see them on ebay, i got a pair of size 12 ordnance grey's as my second pair, my origianl are size 12 express', funny thing is i piad 100 for my expresses, and only 40 for my ordnance, but when i got my expresses soaps on ebay were selling high.

Aug 23, 2006 AnthoFlex

YEsterday i got my pair of Broadsides.....i guess ur view on them changes when you ACTUALLY have them.....lol, anywayz, the shoe is awseome.....ummm.....the only thing i cant put my finger on is everybody says that the 50/50 plate wobbles a lot.....It doesnt wobble for me, i guess that because i have Sk8board for the last 5 yrs...Makio and this other trick have become my specialty....

I say "This Other Trick" becuase i dunno the name of it...ok, i'll explain it....My front foot is in makio postion and my backfoot goes frontside position....what trick is that called?

Aug 23, 2006 AnthoFlex

nvm.....sorry about that, i was just on SOapShoes.info and that trick is called a Sweatstance....or at least i hope so

Aug 23, 2006 Mart

Yep, that sounds like a Sweatstance to me. You're goofy, right? If your right foot is on the sole plate and your left foot is in frontside position, then yeah that's a Sweatstance

Sorry if this doesn't make much sense, I've had a lot to drink and it is/was my 21st on the 23rd, so yeah I'm pretty drunk right now. Go Soap Shoes! Fuck yeah!

Aug 23, 2006 AnthoFlex

Nope, im Regular, i think i like Drunk Mart better...hehe....GO DRUNK DINOSAUR MART!! WHOOOHOOO!!!!!!

Aug 24, 2006 Wesker

Still waiting for my Broadsides in the mail, Happy Belated Birthday Mart.

Aug 25, 2006 AnthoFlex

Oh shit Happy B-Day Mart, i didnt know it was ur B-Day....i didnt read that part.

I didnt know this until now but there are actually 3 colors of the Broadsides....Blue, Green, And......GRAY...i saw it on the 4 fathers Video at 7:02 and 1:21, although the one at 7:02 looks more green

Aug 27, 2006 AnthoFlex

The only plates that are slow are the sole plates (the ones that let you do Makio, etc.) because of ONE reason, If you notice through the Slipknot you can see the SOAP logo, its made outta mesh...It kinda sticks through to the sole plates level....(yes LEVEL, the sole plate and the lateral plate are at different heights.....but barely) WHen you grind on the lateral plate, the mesh doesnt touch the rail.....on the SOLE plate however, it kinda brakes you down.....i think the only time it wont slow you down is when ur going grinding a rail thats going downward.....or an EXTREMELY waxed rail...thats all...bye bye

Aug 28, 2006 Mart

...dude, the Broadsides at both of the times you mentioned in Four Fathers are blue

Aug 28, 2006 AnthoFlex

Hmmm.....I had a feeling they might not be gray but i was kinda on the green side.....sorry bout that then....Its just i never seen black sylons so i thought maybe there COULD be sum gray Broadsides, oh well, thanx for pointing it out

Aug 28, 2006 Surfaced

Yeah it was probably a Sweatstance... maybe a Mizou though.

Aug 28, 2006 AnthoFlex

im not too sure but isnt a Mizuo when you do a sweatstance but going backwards....or is that an Alley-oop Sweatstance?....imma go check SoapShoes.info

Aug 28, 2006 Mart

This might explain things a little easier; if you jump into the grind as you would a frontside, with your front foot on the sole plate, that's a Sweatstance. If you jumped into the grind in the same way as you would a backside (like, you bring your trail foot up and round so it's your lead foot), and your lead foot is on the sole plate, that's a Mizuo. Alley-oop is a whole different ball game

Aug 29, 2006 Wesker

There was also a Sylon model with Slipknot plates, but I don't think that was in Four Fathers.

Aug 29, 2006 Mart

That was the precursor to the Broadside. I think Soap wanted to play with the idea of a Sole plate but not have to design a whole new style for testing in case it didn't work out

Aug 29, 2006 AnthoFlex

Sylons with a slipknot plate, i rememebr Mart mentioning that....i think on the A-sides.....damn, those would be sexy haha

Oct 12, 2006 matrix8967

i want them. i would be complete. i could die happy...

Nov 11, 2006 matrix8967

I just got my pair in the mail...they're amazing...they have plastic trim in some places (possibly for cess slides?) they're a little snug so I may sell them eventually...I havn't tried to grind with them and won't be able to until a few days...but man oh man...just having them gives me a feeling of "OMFG!"

Dec 29, 2006 AnthoFlex

My Sole plate has almost completly stopped....

*sniffle

Dec 29, 2006 SonicSoaper

We'll make them better. We have the technology. We'll make them faster, stronger, less sucky on fatter rails.

THE MILLION DOLLAR BROADSIDE!!!!

Dec 29, 2006 Kru

No what would make them better is a replaceable sole plate. *evil laughter*

Dec 30, 2006 SonicSoaper

That would take so much time to take out though.

Jan 10, 2007 matrix8967

i got mine on ebay. super cheap too. when i went to thank the guy he wasn't a registered ebayer anymore. you might be able to still find some. i might sell mine in the next year or so. they're a size 9 and i'm a 9.5 (US size) and i can squeeze into them, but after a few hours it hurts.

Jan 24, 2007 AnthoFlex

High cost my ass....I see kids these days dishing out 150 or more for the newest Jordans or sumthing...and in my friend's case, Nike SB Dunks...or sumthing

$130 for Broadsides is nothing compared to what is spent on shoes these days

Jan 24, 2007 SonicSoaper

The prices don't bother me. it's the whackos who act like they have OCD when they get their sneaks a little bit dirty.

Jan 24, 2007 RamenRadio

O_O
$130 for Broadsides? I think I have a VERY good deal then... ^_^
These shoes look nice, and from what I read about the plates, they look quite good. Maybe these will be my next pair of soaps. =D

Jan 25, 2007 Slidey

No sole plate = not a Very good deal,
thats probably about the average price for a used pair of sylons.

Jan 27, 2007 AnthoFlex

Im going soaping now yay.....now which one of my Soaps should i wear?.....

BROADSIDES! YAY!

Feb 9, 2007 AnthoFlex

Mar 9, 2007 SonicSoaper

Might be one pair just floating around somewhere. You'll never know.

Mar 9, 2007 AnthoFlex

Nope, only Relate had them

Mar 9, 2007 RamenRadio

What happened to the molds?

Mar 9, 2007 SonicSoaper

Darn the Relate Crew. As far as the mold go, they were destroyed just like most mold are after a certain amount of time.

Mar 10, 2007 AnthoFlex

Hey, respect the relate crew.

They were the best Soapers in the world....doing shit that inliners wouldnt dare do

Mar 10, 2007 SonicSoaper

I got nothing but respect for those guys but it's their shoes I be wantin. Argh! Now I be a freakin pirate.

Mar 30, 2007 pepsi

Apr 4, 2007 Zhowulf

These look sweet. I hope HSL brings back more of the older models.

May 27, 2007 MusicSoaper

I'm curious, has HSL even considered coming out with a new line of soap shoes like these or any at all?

May 28, 2007 SonicSoaper

....No.

Jun 29, 2007 Megashadow77

Jul 11, 2007 grind860

Jul 11, 2007 Megashadow77

I wouldn't ACTUALLY eat them, you douchebag

Aug 7, 2007 xJeremiahx

Hey, are these good for drag queens?

Aug 7, 2007 rhinoskater30

I wouldn't do drag queens if I got my hands on this shoe. I want to get a good, full use of them. Ya never know when you'll see em again.
But yeah, I guess so, I mean the have plastic at the toe, but I don't know how much is sticking out.

Aug 12, 2007 AnthoFlex

it doesnt stick out at all

Aug 14, 2007 Altman

And if it did, wouldn't it just make the shoe slide better?

Aug 14, 2007 AnthoFlex

For Drag Queens yea, in grinding in general, its irrelevant.

Aug 14, 2007 Altman

That's what I meant, drag queens.

Aug 19, 2007 greenfire8484

Jan 13, 2008 moman

i want a pair of these so bad, i need to know where i can get a pair. someone please let me know....

Jan 14, 2008 RamenRadio

What the heck is the guy talking about first comment? These shoes have to be the most comfortable shoes.

HSL has to be on crack. Seriously.

Jan 29, 2008 RamenRadio

They have the molds for these shoes, they should use them then.

Over 500 people want to buy these shoes. If they did some marketing, these shoes would be flying off the shelves.

Feb 7, 2008 Kain

HSL is on crack. But hopefully with the new guy, he'll respect soaping enough to make more broadsides
