Depends, i can't say this from experience, but i think scabs are heavier, but more durable than cleans.

i have a pair of scab smokes and i fell in love with them so i would go for scabs.

I have a pair of cleans (my first pair of soaps), they are comfortable shoe but very basic (soaps first, so to be expected).
They are a bit heavy, but then again i'm size 12(uk) so maybe thats why, lol.

I'd say that the cleans are a great shoe for starting out with, but i'm allready thinking about upgrading.
When you start to move on to more technical tricks that involve tweaking your foot onto the outside or inside edge, you start to rub against the shoe.
Later models of shoe had design features that protected the shoe when doing these kind of tricks.

But i do like the style of my cleans, i have no complaints at all with the shoe, its just i've started to scuff them up a bit now i'm learning new tricks.
